A series of rambling, ribald tall tales
A. Morrissey-Ready honours his ancestors' talent for storytelling by creating his own tall tales about a fictitious Island called The Brambles and illustrating them with maps and drawings in the folk art style. With his ancestors' words clearly resonate, he carries on their legacy of traditional storytelling.
Tales From The Brambles is a folklore series that will eventually consist of six books, each an irreverent and hilarious account of The Brambles' inhabitants who guard their little Catholic Sanctuary with passion, while honouring their Irish, Acadian and Mi'Kmaq ancestors.
Each story is told from the point of view of an aged Islander whose bad grammar, stinging opinions, colourful cuss words and folksy manner of spinning a yarn are charming and often hysterical. A. Morrissey-Ready captures the very essence of storytelling at its finest as the reader joins a cast of bigger-than-life characters, including Fodder Poirier, the Mudders of Perpetual Agony, Paddy Morrisson, Duke Jerome-Joe, Lucy Desrosiers, Bella Maloney, Annie Kerosene and a multitude of others in their wildly slapstick adventures.
But don't be completely distracted by the shenanigans and eccentric characters. Tales From The Brambles is seriously chock-full of history, wisdom and social commentary that have passed down from generation to generation for the rest of us to enjoy!
